Are you kidding me??

Bob Rae donated money to NDP candidates this year.
And this guy thinks he should lead the Liberal Party.
People, are we losing our minds? Stop the insanity. Can someone please get the Anyone But Rae movement going.
Analysis and Commentary on the campaign to select the next leader of the federal Liberal Party.

Any Liberal who does not want Bob Rae to be Leader go to http://www.petitiononline.com/Bobrae/petition.html
I don't want Bob Rae to be leader. He fought against the Liberals, now he wants to lead them? all in eight months.
I was just noticing on Rae's website that his former agriculture minister, Elmer Buchanan, has quit the NDP to join the Libs and support Rae for leader.
In case you didn't notice, the LIberals didn't win a majority in either of the last two elections.
I would have thought that it would be a very good idea indeed to have a leader who might be able to bleed support away from the NDP, as Rae is clearly already doing.
But I dunno, maybe I'm missing some arcane subtlety here.
Herb,
You're definitely missing the mystic and arcane subtlety that Johnny and the author here are so intensely focused on. I mean, how did you miss it? :)
On a serious note, Bob also brought Paul Summerville, a Bay Street Economist, and star candidate for the NDP in the last federal election (for Saint Paul's) over to the Liberals. If he can pull the big guys like that, he can certainly get the grassroots to join the fight against Harper's conservative agenda.
Yeah sell out Liberal loyalty and principles for opportunism. From your guys' lack of Liberal loyalty, I'd think Rae was cloned.
I don't care if Bob Rae got Madonna on side because he's more left, he back stabbed the Liberal Party and he continures to misrepresent himself.
He contributed to Mathyssen, an NDP candidate so the NDP would get more seats, her very own words.
If Rae wins the leadership I'll never vote Liberal again.
Elmer Buchanan, the Minister of Agriculture in the NDP govt was considered by the agricultural community to be the best one they ever had in comparison to Liberal and conservative govts in Ontario. That said, the libs will die on their swords and pick Iggy. And what is this all about liberal values and principles, please explain exactly what that means, because as a former liberal card carrying member and now an NDP, I saw none of that: campaign on the left and rule on the right, or is it about dishonesty. Anyway, in my neck of Ontario, the so-called progressive liberal party and MP is a pro-gun Christmas card toting guy who is anti-abortion and anti-guy rights type. Explain the progressive part here, or is it about the value of winning at all counts? Bob could beat Harper in a national debate, Iggy will lose. That said, Bob just doesn't have that killer Liberal mentality, so you are right, he just does not fit with those lofty liberal values and principles.
The issue remains a hollow bubble -- if you bought your coffee at Starbucks the day before going for that interview at Tim Hortons, are you a traitor? Should TH punt your ass because you showed 'disloyalty' even though you were not there employee -- whether you were chosen to be the CEO or joe latte pourer?
Get over this. His explanation stands and if you want a trojan horse reason not to support him, please pick this one. As Herb has so eloquently said, another 3 people from the left-centre will come over to take your place.
I've been a liberal since '84, worked on about 1/2 the federal election campaigns since then. During the last election I gave serious thought about casting my vote elsewhere -- strategic voting to get rid of an assinine Tory.
When you go into that booth, it's your own sacred decision and no one should preach otherwise. When you donate money you have the same privilege, especially since there are so many who choose not to donate. Rae supported a handful of Liberals, too (Pettigrew, Graham and Godfrey) -- should they be returning that money?
Rae wasn't a member of the party, was still working on a public service file as agreed to from Chretien. He couldn't post a sign, couldn't run for office but could sign a few checks. He supported personal friends and colleagues -- although Mathysssen has obviously received Jack's email and brought out some faux anger over this. As to the 'quote' of Rae glad for the NDP, as a journalist I have to laugh at anyone accepting this as fact. There is no quote of Rae himself, just someone else saying so. That's not a quote, nor is it a firing offence.
You guys really have forgotten what Liberal Party is all about -- we are a big tent party that depends upon the ideas and energy of people who aren't 'fellow travellors' or 'soldiers of commerce' to inject stability to our ranks. Rae is one of the few people who can expand our roots to the region where we can actually possibly defeat this government. That's what its all about.
I am a new member of the Liberal Party and what has drawn me to this party is Bob Rae and his vision of Canada. Get over this political sniping... this man will broaden the base of support to the party and keep it from mimicking the Con's vision of Canada.
I don't get it. Isn't the Liberal Party trying to renew itself and enlarge it's voter base?
I recently joined the Liberal Party because I have huge respect for Bob Rae and would be proud to have someone of his calibre as our Prime Minister.
During his tenure as Ontario Premier Bob had to deal with the fallout from the disasterous policies of the then federal Conservative govenment (high interest rates and a high dollar just as free trade and the GST came into effect - without the adjustment programmes that had been promised by Mulroney). He learned the hard way about both the opportunities to do good and the limitations of government. Liberals should rejoice in the fact that Bob has now recognized that the Liberal Party is the best vehicle to reach the compromises necessary to successfully govern as diverse a country as Canada. He can demolish Harper in a debate anytime and he deserves our support.
Rae donated to a few former NDP colleagues who were NDP MPPs with him while he was Premier. This is a fuss about nothing.
